SPOTLIGHT TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Snapped by Ketley Allison

Snapped Series by Ketley Allison
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:

“We have someone who saw you struggling with the deceased before using that knife. Your best friend, and our eye witness.”

In nine weeks Charlie Miller’s life goes from high-rolling perfection to a crypt of sin. All it takes is one night, one blade, and her boyfriend, best friend and new friends all either end up as suspects or dead.

Nate Westcott, a pierced, tattooed, charismatic lawyer, is a man she can’t have—but a seductive danger she can’t ignore. He’s cocky, infuriating, brilliant and wrong, yet he makes her question whether she really is the good girl she wants to be or more like the selfish killer everyone thinks she is.

And her body wants him in ways she’s not supposed to crave.

As the weeks close in, cracks start forming in her everyday world of pro football golden boys, law school domination and New York City nightlife. Everyone she cares about is at risk because one of them doesn’t love Charlie back. In fact, they want her out of the way. Disposed of. Set up.

One more step, and all Charlie has to do is fall through.

Week 1 starts now.

WHO WILL SNAP?

Snapped is Ketley’s New Adult Contemporary series with all the romance you’d expect, but the killer—and lovers—that you don’t.

Excerpt

I wrapped my hands around the railings, iron framing my view as I watched them. I rested my forehead between the cold columns, feeling like an inmate forced to see the world from the inside.

Neither Lara nor Slade said anything. Nor did they pause for a picture or even acknowledge the requests.

But, I thought, neither bothered to correct them.

They believed Lara was me, that Slade was bringing his girlfriend with him even though players weren’t supposed to consort with their companions prior to a game.

But I shouldn’t rush to stupid thoughts—he probably offered her a ride, asked to drop her off somewhere rather than wasting money on a cab.

Yet the tug on my insides wasn’t regret or logic. It was, ever so slightly, jealousy. She was beautiful. She was with him. I was up here, curled up on the balcony and sporting terrycloth and stress pimples in the background.

He opened the door for her, and she swooped in with him following behind. The door slammed shut, and the car vroomed away from the curb, leaving the flashes, clicks and shouts behind.

I sagged against the bars, blowing out an annoyed, desolate sigh.

“Charlotte!”

I stiffened.

“I see you, girl! Down here!”

Shit. Shit, shit, shit.

I flipped to all fours, squeezing my eyes shut as though I could scrunch out what was happening, and crawled to the balcony door.

Please don’t have zoom capabilities.

“Charlotte! Why aren’t you with your boyfriend! Who’s the lady with him?”

Door. Get to the damn door.

“Charlotte! Charlotte! Char—”

Slam.

I shut the French doors, transforming the sounds from below into muffled murmurs, almost nonexistent.

And if I were to be honest with myself, I felt pretty nonexistent right now, too.

AUTHOR BIO

Ketley Allison began her career by writing books as birthday presents for her friends (with her friend as the main character and opposite a super sexy lead, of course) before ending it in order to walk down a path she thought she was supposed to follow.

The writing bug never left her–and, in fact, would often bleed into the official papers she was supposed to write–so now Ketley’s putting down her suit and finally following her dream. While her friends are no longer the stars of her books, she still throws in bits and pieces of them into each and every one of her characters.

As a result, her books tend to focus a lot on friendships as well as love, because let’s be honest, friends are what really get you through–especially when your epic love turns into epic heartbreak.

Just friends.
We’re just friends.
No, really. She’s just my best friend...

Arizona Turner has been my best friend since fourth grade, even when we “hated” each other. We’ve been there for one another through first kisses, first “times,” and we’ve been each other’s constant when good relationships turned bad. (We even went to colleges that were minutes away from each other…)
Throughout the years, and despite what anyone says, we’ve never crossed the line.
Never thought about it.
Never wanted to.
Until one night changed everything.
At least, it should’ve...

Just friends.
We’re just friends.
I’m only saying this until I figure out if she’s still “just” my best friend…

 Excerpt

“Do you think I’m a con artist or a victim?”

“I think you’re a woman who has been hurt.” No denying that. “One of my team members, Wade Monroe, is contacting the Montgomery family. We’ll get DNA from them and find out—”

“If I’m Jessica.” There was hope in the words. Enough hope to break his heart.

Gabe nodded.

“When will we know?”

It would take a few days, even with the strings that he could pull. “As soon as possible,” he said, not wanting to give her a specific timetable.

“Thank you.” Then, just like that, she was across the car, giving him a tight hug. “Thank you.”

His arms wrapped around her, an instinctive response. She smelled faintly of flowers, a sweet scent that teased his nose, and her body was soft against his.

She tried to pull away, as if realizing what she’d just done.

For an instant he was tempted to hold her, to keep her close.

She’s a client. Focus.

He let her go, but his body ached.

“I … um … I should get inside.”

Yes, she should. While he was still clutching tight to his control. The control that said he shouldn’t push her. Shouldn’t want her so much. Not when she’d already been hurt so badly.

Her fingers reached for the door.

“Let me,” he said, voice rumbling, and Gabe climbed from the Jag. In seconds he was on the passenger side, opening her door for her. She rose, and her body brushed against his.

He stepped back. Distance. He seriously needed to put some distance between then. But even with some fast steps back, he could still smell that light and sexy scent that clung to her body.

And he still wanted her.

“Your shrink asked me a lot of questions about you,” Eve told him as she stood temptingly close.

Gabe inclined his head. “I’m sure—”

“I think she wanted to know why I respond so much to you.”

Oh, hell, she’d just said … He cleared his throat even as part of his body surged in quick response to her. “It’s a tense situation, you’re—”

“You don’t look at me as if I’m a victim.”

He stopped talking.

“I mean, you know what I am, but you still look at me and seem to just see me … as a woman.”

“Others see you the same way.” Doc Tyler sure did. Bastard.

“It’s different with you,” she murmured as she stepped even closer to him. Her head had tilted back so she could look into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’ve felt for other men before.”

Why did the idea of others have his body knotting with tension?

“But I know that when I see you, I want.” A hushed confession. “I just … I needed to tell you that.”

And he needed to make his self-control a hell of a lot stronger. Her lips were just inches from his, and he wanted her mouth beneath his. Wanted her lips open. Needed to taste her.

“You’re the first man I’ve wanted since I opened my eyes in that hospital.”

He could actually feel his control splintering. Client. Cli—

“You probably don’t want me. I—I might not be your type.”

Now her gaze had fallen, as if in embarrassment. Had she really just asked if she was his type?

She was probably every damn man’s type.

“But you make me feel normal again, so I had to tell you—”

His fingers curved under her chin. “Eve …”

Her smile was a little too big. Too bright. “I don’t think I can handle anything else right now, I’m …” She pulled away. Stumbled onto the sidewalk. “I just wanted to tell you how I felt,” she told him again.

Then she walked into the shelter, her steps hurried. As if she were running.

From him.

He stared after her. She wanted him.

And she was so beyond his reach.

Summary:

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Christian Louboutins.

Brent has never let the loss of his leg in a childhood accident affect his ability to lead a fulfilling life. He sets high goals–and then he reaches them.

And now he has his sights set on Kennedy.

**

When Kennedy looks at Brent Mason, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell.

She’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore - she’s a DC prosecutor with a long winning streak behind her. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case and she thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.

But things aren’t exactly working out that way.

Because every fiery exchange has her wondering if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. Each argument and objection only makes him want her more. In the end, Brent and Kennedy may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.

APPEALED is a sexy, humorous romance about first crushes, second chances and the final verdict of the heart.

Drawing his eyebrows together, Johnnie looked at him evenly and said, “What do you see?”

Plump lips. A pink tongue. Silky hair. Soft skin. Entrancing eyes.

“You’re trembling,” Hugh answered. “Even under that blanket with all those clothes on, you’re cold.” Johnnie was always cold at night. But Hugh wasn’t. He was burning up. “Here.”

Hugh reached his arms out as he lay down on his side beside Johnnie. “Get close to me. My body heat will help.”

Within moments, Johnnie was wrapped in his arms, his soft skin brushing against Hugh’s chest, his silky hair caressing the underside of Hugh’s chin, and his pretty mouth blowing fast bursts of air against Hugh’s nipple. Very fast.

“You’re breathing too quickly.” Hugh pulled Johnnie closer and flung his leg around Johnnie’s thighs, curling around the other lion in an attempt to surround him with heat.

“Oh,” Johnnie said, his voice cracking. He grasped at Hugh’s shoulders, his chest, and his flank. “Oh.”

“What is that?” Hugh rolled sideways, putting Johnnie on his back, and then climbed on top of him. He braced his legs on either side of Johnnie and planted his forearms on the bed to help distribute his weight, but he otherwise kept their bodies connected. “Why do you shake like that?”

Synopsis:

Quent Jackson has followed Jason Spade's every move in business and in poker since their first day as college freshmen. Eight years later, when Jace finally decides Quent is the one man he can't live without, he sees no reason for that to change.

But as much as Jace believes that poker is life, no one gave Quent the same playbook. After their first passionate night, the real game of love and trust begins, and Jace has been playing alone too long to make teaching the rules easy. Jace only speaks two languages: one of them is sex, and the other one is poker. Between the two, he needs to find a way to convince himself to take a chance on love—and Quent to take a chance on him. It's a lucky thing they’re good at reading the odds, because they’re playing for keeps, and this is one high-stakes relationship that's definitely worth the gamble.

***  REVIEW  ***

"Sometimes, you can't win unless you lay your cards on the table. "

It's official- I'm a friends-to-lovers/ GFY romance addict and I'm not ashamed at all, lol. On the contrary, I plan to indulge in my addiction for many years to come. I have read only one book by A. Lane before this one- The Locker Room and it was a 3 stars read for me -meaning it was an okay read, I liked it, but there were some "issues" which prevented me from rating it higher, f.e. some frustrating melodrama and cheesy content.

That's why I was a little worried before starting this book, because books with cheesy content are usually a miss for me, but I was too curious and as you know- weak when it comes to this particular theme, so I picked it up. Besides, I haven't had much luck with f/m romances lately and considering my "addiction" I thought that this should be a safe bet. And the answer is- yes, it was!

Sweet, fun, deeply emotional & way too hot.

The beginning could have been a bit better, it felt a bit rushed, but the more the story progressed the more I was falling in love with it and its main characters. Quent & Jason have been inseparable since the first day they met on collage. Jace was the typical jock- popular, fun and hot, the light of every party. Everybody wanted to be his friend, but the person with whom he connected the most was Quent. From best friends to roommates and soon enough business partners, they've been through a lot together and knew almost everything about each other except that one little secret which is about to come to light and change everything.

I loved both of the main characters. They were so fun and charming together and I was rooting for them since the very beginning. Jace, who seems closed off, short-tempered and distant at first glance and who rarely lets anyone get close to him and see him vulnerable, was perfectly balanced with the adorable, outgoing and a bit shy Quent. They simply completed each other and thank you Ms. Lane for not turning them into immature drama queens and commitment phobes when they faced some problems.

Their story was pretty light and drama-free. It wasn't anything unique or unpredictable, but for me the story made up for that with endearing character and their emotional journey. The ending was indeed a bit cheesy, at least for my taste, but it was the last few pages, so I could handle it.

Because of the shaky beginning and cheesy ending I was somewhat torn between rating it 3.5 or 4 stars, because to be honest I have read better books when it comes to this theme, books like Taboo For You by A. Sunday, but even if it wasn't perfect, I settled for 4 stars, because in-between A. Lane pulled out every possible card to make me love it.

Recommended to my fellow mm romance fans with friends-to-lovers/GFY addiction!

*** REVIEW ***

As I said in my review of the 1st installment in this series- Marked (Servants of Fate, #1), this pnr romance/ urban fantasy books have the misfortune of me having read the Fever series by K. M. Moning, Guild Hunter series by N. Singh and Kate Daniels series by I. Andrews, which are for me one of the best out there when it comes to this genre and one of the main reasons why I find this series a bit lacking.

If I had read it 2-3 years ago, I would have probably liked it more, but my reading preferences have changed over the years. The thing I liked about this book the most is that it was less romance-driven than the previous one and focused more on the world-building, because the interesting and quite unique world-building is what kept me turning the pages. The story as a whole was okay- I liked it, but I kept waiting for *that moment* when someone or something will impress me, but it never came.

The things that kept me from rating it higher:

~ Just like in the previous book, the main characters were for me yet again overshadowed by the secondary ones. Both, Cacy and Dec, just like their romance were portrayed a bit too plain in my opinion. I prefer my characters with more personality, even a bit edgy and therefore them two seemed too ordinary for my taste.

~ You know that feeling "this must be written by a woman" you get while reading some passage in the book? Well, I got that feeling every time while reading the chapters from Dec's point of view. This reason is also connected with the reason above. Dec is portrayed a bit too perfect for my taste, f.e. he never made mistakes, he always said and did the right things etc. He just seemed too fictional.

The best part of the book for me was the epilogue. Up until that moment I wasn't sure if I'm interested enough in reading the next book in the series despite my rating, but that awesome epilogue involving the intriguing Lord of the Kere, Moros, who is still my favorite character, and the new Charon, Aislin, decided it for me. Hopefully, the next book will live up to my expectations *fingers crossed.*
