Genre:
Psychological Suspense/ Dark Romance

Summary on Goodreads:

They say when you take revenge against another you lose a part of your innocence.
But I’m not innocent.
I haven’t been for a very long time.
My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams.

Gone.
Vanished.

I never even had a choice.
I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs.
Until now.
I’m ready to take back what was always meant to be mine.

But every plan has a fatal flaw. Sometimes it’s the heart.

**Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only.*

***REVIEW***

We all save face for others to perceive us in the best light.

Nothing is real until you break down the walls and reveal the ugliness.
"Ugliness," I repeat as I look at him.
"The truest part of the person is always the ugliest.
And with your evasiveness, I would bet that you're pretty
damn ugly beneath all that gloss."

This book, to put it mildly, left me shocked, highly disturbed & speechless. I just wanted to crawl into my bed and hide under the blanket until I forget some of the images it put into my head. It left me with huge mixed & conflicting feelings. How the fu** am I going to rate this was one of my thoughts when I finished it and even days after reading it I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

"Weakness derives from the soul.
Most everyone has one, which gives a woman like me leverage.
Leverage to play people to my liking, and so I do."

The story was dark, complex, twisted, disturbing, raw, brutal, deeply emotional, touching & way too hot.  One big & non-forgiving, psychological mind-fuck.  The first quote above describes the theme of the book the best in my opinion. It was really well-written, there's no doubt about that. You could feel every emotion of the characters as if they were your own, as if you were there with them. The writing style definitely deserves 5 stars, BUT for the story itself, I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, it was good, I did like it, but there were also some loopholes I just couldn't overlook.

Be warned: this is not an easy read at all. It deals with a lot of heavy issues (abuse, rape, pedophilia, death etc.), every each of them described in fairly explicit details. These parts were really disturbing and emotionally exhausting, but they were also very important to be able to understand the story and the development of the characters. If you are familiar with the work of this author, you'll know what I mean. I read her Fading Series before, so I had some idea what to expect, but still, this was definitely more disturbing. These scenes gave me nightmares one night after reading and I had to put the story aside a couple of times to compose myself.

There are a lot of grey areas in this book which may make you uncomfortable and it revolves around characters with questionable redeemable quality, especially the main character Elizabeth/Nina. Is she a redeemable character? I'm not sure. To be exact, I'm not sure if that can be said for many characters in it. One thing for sure is that she is way too fucked-up, but that's more than realistic after the things she's been through. The mind-fuck begins as a big mystery with mixed present and past events and the minute the secret, lies & betrayals begin to reveal- shit hits the fan. I won't say anything else about the story, the blurb being more than enough, because everything might be spoilerish when it comes to mind-fucks like this. Read it and decide for yourself.

It ends up with a big cliffhanger, but after everything that happened in the second half of the book, I was more than content with the way it ended. I will definitely read the next one, but I'm glad it's not published yet, because I really need time to compose my feelings about this one. I would recommend it to the fans of dark reads and fans of the show Revenge, because the premise and some details of the story reminded me on that show, but have in mind that this is way much darker.

MY ISSUES WITH THE STORY:

1. THE REASON BEHIND ELIZABETH'S REVENGE
Aside from the second half of the story turning into a sappy romance with a lot of drama, this is the biggest reason for my rating. I was not o.k. with the reason for her revenge at all when we finally find out what it is. That doesn't justify at all the things she has done! I wish the author gave us better reason for that, because the whole mind-fuck is based on that particular reason and it should have been more believable and justifying.

2. TOO MUCH DRAMA
I liked the 1st half of the book slightly better than the second half and wish that the author didn't take the story in some directions she did in the second half turning it into sappy romance with a lot of drama at times.

3. ELIZABETH a.k.a NINA
As I already said- I don't know if she's a redeemable character. I don't know if I like her. I guess I'll make my final decision about it in the 2nd book.

4. LOVE INTERESTS
This is not your typical fluffy romance. It's a dark romance and there's a love square involved, but I could deal with it to some extent, because it was important to understand the story. I will be be short about this:
- I like Bennet.
- I'm undecided about Declan.
- I utterly hate Pike.

***REVIEW***

Hi everyone! So, real life= job has been preventing me to read or blog this past month, but I've managed to read 2-3 books even though it took me way longer than usual, one of that this yummie mm arc I got on Netgalley. Take that cruel world!!! *fist pump*

Arc provided via Netgalley in exchange for honest review

"And I figured I'd come home, and I'd just go for it...
like you did that night you told me I was the biggest,
brightest thing in you world."
"You were."
"You still are the biggest, brightest thing in mine..."

Every time I read a book about first love I remember a quote from The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher:

"You can only give your heart away once, after that,
everything else will chase your first love."

First love has the power to ruin you for everyone else. This is a story about that type of love. To find your soul mate when only 17 years old and at the same time discover that you are gay must be terrifying. That is why I could forgive Adam for the way he handled things in the past and why I could understand Harris's behavior in the present.

The story was very emotional, sweet and hot with likable main characters: Adam, the sexy Navy SEAL ft. the super cute hairdresser Harris. I admit- the thing that won me over to request this arc was a promise of a hot Navy Seal, because I love military mm books. Add to that GFY theme (gay-for-you) and I'm yours 4ever.

The story's only flaws:
- It was too short. Only 86 pages. That's why I felt that some developments of the plot were too rushed. That's the curse of shorter stories I guess. Cute, but not exactly completely satisfying.

- Some cheesy content. The romance was sweet, but the part with tattoos was a bit over the top in my opinion or to be more specific- the design of the tattoos.

All in all, it was an enjoyable, sweet and short mm book which I recommend to every mm fan when in need of an easy read with no bigger drama.

XOXO

Book summary:
She lied to me...
She betrayed the one rule that I'm most adamant about: Honesty. Complete and utter fucking honesty.
I really wish she was someone else—someone who didn't have the ability to make me feel, someone I could easily discard like the hundreds of women before her.
She isn't.
I'm drawn to her like I've never been drawn to a woman before—completely captivated by the very sight of her. But unfortunately, with my past slowly re-surfacing for all of the world to see, I'll have to find a way to let her go.
She can never be mine.

Book 2 in a three part Erotic Romance Serial.

 My rating: 4 stars

My review:

After finishing Volume 2 I only have one thought: When is the the next one coming out?! I need it! I need it bad...

But before I got all needy for Andrew, I had a lot of fun reading Volume 2, but if I'm being completely honest, I liked Volume 1 a bit more. Still, this one did not disappoint. I guess disappointment is never an option when it comes to Andrew.

Picking up at that horrific cliffhanger, the story continued on its interesting, mysterious, and very hot path. This thing with Andrew and Aubrey they have going on where they they want each other, but they don't want each other, and the author's way of telling it makes for a very entertaining reading material. Not to mention all the hotness, which was off the charts!

On a more serious note, some details from Andrew's past were revealed; enough details to make you want to know much more about him, and they did provide some insight into why Andrew lives they way he lives. Still, more questions than answers about his past. Past that doesn't let him truly be with Aubrey. He did make some big steps, and did some sweet things for her. But then he would start remembering, and everything would just go to hell.

Here's to hoping everything will get resolved in Volume 3, and that Andrew will finally be able to open up. I just hope the resolution won't be rushed, which was known to happen with some serials. I certainly wouldn't want Andrew to completely stop being that loveable jerk. No, sir!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed Aubrey and Andrew get the ending they deserve. I know I'll be IMPATIENTLY waiting to read it.

*Fangirling scream*
That was how I reacted when I saw review copy in my inbox. Younger sister failed to understand why I was so cheerful and hyped. Told me that I looked" like a fucking rainbow exploded in our living room" and ordered me to tone it down. My response - lovingly staring into my Kindle and ignoring everyone around me. Because Preach! Under my fingertips. Click, click and there it was - his story.

Back in March, pressed with dire need for something smutty with bastards I love to hate, I stumbled upon first Renegade Sons MC novel. I loved it more than I expected, so I got excited when I saw that Preach was next. Was it what I expected? Yes! Even more.

Renegade Reject is a typical biker romance - it has typical elements and storyline, you know what to expect. There is violence, name calling, don't even let me start with sex, feminists would have a blast with ripping it apart - male and female "roles", hierarchy, branding... If you start thinking too hard about it, you'll get mad, but if you accept it as it is - a modern fairy tale, you might find yourself glued to the pages of book at 4 in the morning.

Story about Daisy and Preach started really good. You get great character development, everything is actually explained and not portrayed solely as a cliche. One thing that I did mind was that some parts of the story were almost the same as in the previous novel. I hope that authors will decide to surprise us in the next one and give us completely different story.

Warning! There is a lot of drama. Nothing unexpected, but that last third of the novel was a little bit over the top. Again, if you accept Renegade Reject with all defining point of the genre, that won't be a big problem for you.

Third book in the series, Renegade Angel is about Timber and Tabby and it should be published later this year. I can't wait!

Excerpt/Teaser:

Quote 4 RR

I try to pull my hand from Preach’s. ”I’m gonna go sit with Grams.”

Not letting me go, he says, “No.  You’re staying with me.”

With that, he pulls away and leads me to the bar.

My anger starts to boil, and I can’t hold it in any longer.  “Why, so you can show me off to the rest of these guys?”

He finally stops walking and looks down at me.  “What are you talking about?”

“You told that guy he had to wait until my birthday to claim me.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” he asks again, sounding confused.

Using my free hand to motion behind me, I repeat his words.  “She’s only seventeen. Gotta wait ‘til her birthday to brand her.  I can’t believe you’d think that I’d ever be okay with some random man branding me!”

He stares at me for a long minute while he processes my words, fighting a smile the entire time.  “Daisy, I promise you that dickhead and none of his brothers are ever gonna claim you.  Before long, you’re gonna belong to a Renegade Son.  I guarantee you that.”

“What do you mean?” I ask, shocked that again he’s assuming that I will let someone claim me.

He finally lets the smile take shape as he leans down to whisper in my ear.  “You’ll be finding out soon.”

He straightens and continues walking through the clubhouse.  He leads me around the room by my hand, talking to one man after another along the way, but the only thing I really noticed was that each time Preach would introduce me to someone, he would loosely wrap his arms around me. I swear he was staking his claim to everyone inside of the club, wordlessly announcing to the world that I’m his.  By the time we make it to the table where my Grams is sitting, I am beyond confused and horny as hell.  What’s going on?  He can’t want me, can he?  Lord, I hope he does.

(Release Day Launch) After This Night by Lauren Blakely

We are thrilled to bring you the Release Day Launch for Lauren Blakely's AFTER THIS NIGHT! AFTER THIS NIGHT is the second full-length novel from her first Erotic Romance Series, The Seductive Nights Series!

After This Night

AFTER THIS NIGHT EXCERPT:

“I wish I were there wearing your clothes right now.” He laughed. “That’s what you want to be doing? Because I’d like to be fucking you if you were here.” “Well, that too. But then I’d put on your shirt.” “You like that, don’t you?” “I know you do too,” she said. “I do. Seeing you in my shirt and your heels is my kryptonite.” “Oh, is that it? That’s your kryptonite?” “Or maybe it’s just that you are,” he whispered, admitting more than he wanted to. “I think the same could be said here.” There was a pause, and though they were three thousand miles apart, the silence was heady. He was in a drugged-out state tonight. This woman was his pill, and closeness with her was what he craved most even as he feared she would destroy his heart. Smash it to a million tiny pieces and eat it for lunch. But he had a built-in barrier in distance, and with no trips to San Francisco on his immediate calendar he saw nothing wrong with this temporary moment of relief from the pressure inside of him from wanting her. They couldn’t be together in any meaningful way, and he couldn’t get hurt if he didn’t actually see her. Right? Right, he answered for himself. “What are we doing, Julia?” he asked, and he was sure she could hear the longing in his tone, but he didn’t care. There was no need to hide it after they’d just broken down and pleasured themselves together. “I wish I knew,” she said, her voice wistful and full of yearning. “I really wish I knew.” He heaved a sigh, trying to sort out his thoughts, but his brain was a mixed-up mess and he didn’t know how to untangle all the threads. Or if he wanted to remain tangled up with her instead. “What are you going to do when we hang up?” he asked, changing direction. “Read a book.” “What are you reading these days?” “A crazy story about a guy who treks across Antarctica.” “That does sound crazy.” “Yeah. He’s kind of hallucinating and talking to penguins right now,” she said with a small laugh. “Can you blame him? I have to imagine if you’re stuck in the polar ice cap that talking to penguins might be a rare source of comfort.” “As long as he doesn’t eat the penguins I’ll keep reading it.” “Here’s to no penguin meals in the books we read.” “What will you do?” “I suspect I will fall fast asleep and dream of a beautiful redhead on the other side of the country.” “She would like that dream very much,” she said in a sweet voice, the kind that worked its way beneath all the hard edges in him, and settled deep in his heart. “Will I talk to you again soon?” He took a fueling breath, and put his armor back on, steeling himself. “I don’t know the answer to that.”

About AFTER THIS NIGHT:

This is the conclusion of Julia and Clay's story that began in the New York Times Bestseller Night After Night.
"Why do you like me tied up sometimes?" "Because the way I feel for you is so out of control that this is one way for me to feel in control again." Their world was passion, pleasure and secrets. Far too many secrets. But Clay Nichols can't get Julia Bell out of his mind. He's so drawn to her, and to the nights they shared, that he can't focus on work or business. Only her. And she's pissing him off with her hot and cold act. She has her reasons though-she's trying to stay one step ahead of the trouble that's been chasing her for months now, thanks to the criminal world her ex dragged her into. If only she can get out of this mess, then maybe she can invite the man who ignites her back in her life, so she can have him-heart, mind and body. He won't take less than all of her, and the full truth too. When he runs into her again at her sister's wedding, they have a second chance but she'll have to let him all the way in. And they'll learn just how much more there is to the intense sexual chemistry they share, and whether love can carry them well past the danger of her past and into a new future, after this night...

Kidd

I lift the beer to my lips just as my brother comes storming toward me.  “You wanna tell me why the fuck you’re not claiming Jenna, and why the hell your letting her work at The Kitty Kat?”
I toss my drink, feeling it burn down my throat. “I’m giving her time to grow the hell up. Right now, she’s too damn young.  If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t be so fuckin’ pissed about that shit I said.  A grown woman would have known I was spouting shit,” I say, crashing my glass onto the bar.
“She’s eighteen, brother. If that’s old enough for her to take her damn clothes off for our brothers, that’s old enough to be claimed.”
“No shit, but it ain’t happening right now. I’ve tried claiming her, shit happened, and things went south. She won’t even let me talk to her long enough to apologize.” I shrug, anger growing inside me as I think of the way she’s been acting.
He shakes his head.  “Make her ass listen.  You’re a man. Don’t give her a damn choice.”
“I’m thinking she’s too fuckin’ young, and I’m giving her time to grow up before I put a brand on her ass,” I tell him while nodding at the prospect to give me another drink.
“I understand where you’re coming from, but are you sure you can live with seeing her with the other men?  She’s determined to be a club girl, not just dance.”
“Fuck no.” I run my hands over my face, trying to wipe away the image of Jenna with one of my brothers.  “It makes me want to rip them limb from limb just thinking about it, but I need to let her do this.  Jenna needs a chance to make her own choices, live her own life.  Then, one way or another, I’ll claim her.”
“She’s over there right now,” he says, motioning to the other side of the clubhouse.
I look up and see her sitting with Reese and Timber.  Reese’s hand is around her shoulders, while Timber has a hand on her thigh. They’re not doing anything really, just shooting the shit, but seeing them together is burning a hole in my gut.
“That’s what you(’ve) got to look forward to until you pull your thumb out of your ass and take what’s yours.”
“I know, brother.” Just as I start to look away, her eyes meet mine.  A slow smile plays on her lips before she leans against Timber and places a kiss on his lips.  The entire time, her eyes never leave mine.  It only takes a second for my anger to reach a boiling point.
“Tell Ice she’s needed in my office right the fuck now,” I say to Chipper before turning away and stalking to the other side of the common room.  I yank Skittles from the couch and pull her into my office. “On your knees.”
She hesitates for a moment, then does as she’s told.  My dick barely reaches her lips before the door opens.  I watch Jenna walk into the room, and a huge ass smile spreads across my face.
