My Top New Adult Choices

Lets talk about the New Adult genre!

Some people love it, some people hate it. I personally love it – but when it’s good. NA centers on characters in their early 20s, those who are entering the adult world, but are still quite unsure of where they belong. In theory it should contain the best of YA and adult worlds, and by its very definition, it should be my favorite genre.

I’m sad to say that I’d read more NA I hated than those I loved; therefore I always look for good NA books to read. I know some people even gave up on the genre, but I refuse to do that because I believe NA has some good things to offer. So here I’ve decided to share my favorite NA books and authors, and of course to ask you for some recommendations. Here are my best of the best!

• First of all, the ADDICTED series by Krista and Becca Ritchie. These books represent to me what NA genre should be about. These are my absolute favorites! *insert heart eyes* I can’t even talk about NA without mentioning these books. Tag line goes: 9 books. 6 friends. 3 couples. 1 epic series. And there’s no better description than that. Read this if you want a series that a little bit angsty (it’s about a female sex addict and her alcoholic best friend), but with plenty of funny moments too; it’s also about brotherhood and sisterhood, exploring sexuality, public opinions, growing up.. and a lot more. With these books I cried, I laughed, I fell in love. You can begin reading from the first book – Addicted to You (which is free for limited time, so better grab it!) or you can read Calloway Sisters spin-offs starting with Kiss the Sky.

 • My other favorite NA author is Leah Raeder, with her books Unteachable and Black Iris. (Cam Girl is coming out in November, and they’re all standalones.) Her books are definitely more mature, with edgier themes; Raeder definitely talks about things that need talking about (e.g. issues of gender and sexuality). But in my opinion, her finest feature is the writing style; if like me, you enjoy poetic and descriptive writing, you will certainly love these books. It’s like Raeder sees the world in madly vivid colors, and sounds and by reading we glimpse the world little bit differently too. It’s an unique and unforgettable experience.
Unteachable deals with teacher/student romance, and Black Iris’ main theme is revenge. I love and recommend them both.

Some other NA books I enjoyed are: Deeper by Robin York, which at first glance it may seem like a typical NA book, but the story is actually quite good (it explores a very important theme of revenge porn). Then Faking It by Cora Carmack, it’s lighter and more on the fun & fluff side, but still good nevertheless. And I really need to read more books from Carmack, I like how she writes!

There are of course a lot more NA authors I’d read and loved, such as Tammara Webber, Colleen Hoover, Penelope Douglas, but I feel they are very popular and quite familiar to everyone by now.

Now, if you’re a NA guru, please share some books I might’ve missed. What are your favorite NA titles?

Prince Jules, the least favorite of the Dragon King's children, lives simply, banished to his rooms and the amazing adventures found in his books. He has never left the palace or shifted into his dragon form…he's never done anything.

Dragon shifter Lem is assigned to Jules as the prince's new bodyguard, and is determined to keep Jules safe from the Graithen, who killed the prince’s previous guardian. Lem grows to hate how the King hides Jules away, and longs to show him how to fly. His love for Jules also grows but it is forbidden, like so much in Jules' life.

When the Graithen attack again, though, everything changes.

Excerpt:

Lem was worried about the prince. Jules didn’t sleep. He didn’t eat. He didn’t do anything but lie in his bed. Lem knew how to defend Jules from outside threats. He did not know how to defend the prince from himself.
The little prince was never cruel. He barely spoke, he barely moved. Lem had been told that Jules used to spend most of his time reading, staying in his suite with his bodyguard Mabon.
Lem, of course, knew Mabon—all the bodyguards knew each other by sight—but not very well. The strong dragon had been older and had had more training than Lem currently did when he’d been called to the prince’s side almost two hundred years ago.
Lem knew they were very big wings indeed that he had to fill. He also knew, without question, that the blame would fall upon him should Jules die. And rightly so. He was the prince’s protector. He just wasn’t sure how he could protect Jules from himself, for surely that was what the danger was at this time. It made Lem think. What would Mabon have done?
There was a private courtyard off of Jules’ rooms, meant solely for the prince’s pleasure. Lem knew that no one else was allowed back there, not even gardeners. The area was completely cut off from the rest of the castle by high, windowless walls, and the only entrance was through the door in Jules’ quarters. Perhaps a little air, a change of scenery would be good. Decided, Lem went to Jules, the prince still curled up in his nest as he had been earlier this morning. And yesterday, and the day before that, and the week before that, since Lem had been here.
“Your Highness, let’s go out to the courtyard. I can hear the fountain, but have never seen it.”
Jules looked at him for a moment, the green eyes beautiful, if so sad. One slender hand waved as if to say, “go.”
Grunting, Lem girded his loins against his own training, which said he didn’t do this, that he was never to touch the prince if he could avoid it. He bent, picking Jules right up out of his nest.
“What?” Jules sputtered.
Dragons needed sustenance, sunlight. They needed it. Lem clung to that thought and stayed the course.
“We are going to the courtyard.”
He didn’t put Jules down. The prince would probably curl back up in his nest, or possibly find a nook or cranny to hide in, and Lem was not having that. He was taking his prince into the sunlight, even if it meant he was disobeying his prince’s wishes. His job was to protect and defend.
When Lem pushed through the door into the courtyard, he gasped as the sunshine touched his skin. It had been days. Days. He could feel it, energizing him, warming him. He had been so busy worrying about the prince, he’d forgotten his own need for the warm touch.
He wanted to close his eyes and bask, but he didn’t. As private as this space was, that didn’t mean impenetrable. There was still the air, and he was no longer guarding the door from Jules’ quarters. So he kept his eyes open, stayed aware, and walked toward the lovely fountain that had pride of place in the center of the surprisingly roomy courtyard.
“Can you feel the sunshine in your bones?” he asked even though he knew Jules could, the dull sheen on Jules’ skin already beginning to warm, to take on a hint of vitality.
It was obvious to Lem that he had done the right thing. Master Anselle had always told him to follow his gut. Worried as it had made him, he had. He sent a silent prayer of thanks and love to his teacher. Every lesson, no matter how strange or hard or simple, was proving to be useful in the guardianship of his charge.
Prince Jules lifted his face to the sun, the motion simple, instinctual. It gave Lem his first real look at the prince’s face.
Unlike the thickset, heavy dragons that made up Lem’s caste, Jules had the delicate, gentle features of the ruling class. Perhaps the most beautiful features Lem had ever seen. The sadness in them did not dim Jules’ beauty in the least.
Lem let himself memorize the fine cheekbones, the long, slender nose. He imagined Jules’ dragon would be quite small, but perfectly formed. He’d never seen a royal in dragon form, but had heard that their scales were impossibly beautiful.
Moving to the fountain, he took in the form of the tree that was in the center of it, water pouring from its boughs. Such wonderful magic!
“My mother formed this for me.” Words, actual words, offered freely. This was indeed a magical spot.
“It’s beautiful. Is the water healing?” Lem asked as he sat on the bench that wound its way around the fountain.
Jules nodded. “But it cannot heal me.”

*** Spoiler-free REVIEW ***

People are most of the time oblivious to the power of the written word. They tend to forget that words are used to create, but also to destroy. They can be means to deeply hurt someone's feelings or make them smile. They have the power to virtually take us to places we have never been and make us kings, queens, models, rock stars, vampires, fairies etc. at least for a day. Or in this case they can take us in the head of a stalker, compulsive liar,  a true psycho and a killer- the MC of this book, Joe Goldberg and make us even like him, cheer for him or sympathaize with him, while in real life we would have never done that. That strong is the power of words. This story reminds us that some of the darkest and flawest minds hide behind pretty words and we aren't even aware of them until it's too late.

Dark, gripping, raw, suspenseful, entertaining and thoughtprovoking psychological thriller.

Anyone looking for a well-written, complex, but fascinating story from a pov of the villain, search no more and give a shot to this series. I liked the first book, BUT I loved this one. After the gory ending of You (You, #1) Joe's unfortunate and deadly search for love continues. Will he finally meet his true match this time or will his darkest secrets come to the surface and be his downfall? Buy the book and find out! I'm not going to talk about the plot, because, unlike some people, I don't want to spoil it for other readers who won't get to read it before February. All I'm going to say is that, despite his dark side, Joe is truely one of the most intriguing and comlex characters I've come across.

Caroline Kepnes, you got me both awed and a little scared by your devious way of story-telling. This is the third book I've added to my top-read-of-2015 GR shelf and it more than desreves it. Read it!

Spotlight Tour & Giveaway: When An Omega Snaps (A Lion’s Pride Series, #3) by Eve Langlais

When An Omega Snaps by Eve Langlais
(A Lion’s Pride #3)

Publication date: August 6th 2015
Genres: Adult, Paranormal

Synopsis:

Leo is the calm guy. The nice guy. The one nobody screws with. So could someone explain that to Meena so she stops driving him insane—with desire.

When Meena literally throws herself at Leo and declares he’s her mate, his first reaction is to deny—and run far, far away. This lion/tiger mix doesn’t do drama and chaos. Problem is, once he sets eyes on her, he can’t help but want the vivacious blonde with plus-sized curves, perfect for a big man like himself.

He wants her even if it breaks all his rules when it comes to women.
Wants her even if she destroys his serenity.
Wants her more than a perfectly grilled piece of steak with a dash of garlic, pepper, and salt.

Thing is, someone else wants her too.

This poor omega is about to have his world turned upside down, which means everyone better watch out because when Leo experiences love, jealousy, and frustration for the first time, he doesn’t just snap—he roars!

EXCERPT

Leo was just minding his own business when he heard someone shout, “Heads up! Or is that heads down?”

Thunk.

Either way it didn’t matter. Leo caught the Frisbee with his noggin, which, given he was in the lobby of the condo complex he lived in, didn’t impress him one bit.

Some might have acted on that irritation—gone after the Frisbee tosser and scalped her. Others would have engaged in an unladylike tussle. But as the Pride’s omega, he had a certain standard to adhere to. Leo let the irritation roll off his really wide—so wide the college football coach almost cried when he wouldn’t play—shoulders.

With a nonchalance and calm that Leo strove to teach others, he kept walking toward the elevator, which happened to be where the purple disc landed. He refrained from crushing it. No need to blame the disc just because its thrower had poor aim.

An unfamiliar scent—feline and delicious—surrounded and brushed past him as a woman skipped by, intent on the Frisbee. The blonde, whom he didn’t recognize, stooped over to grab the plastic disc, her cropped athletic shorts molding every curve of her made-for-gripping ass and nibble-worthy thighs.

Everything about her was big, bold, and luscious.

Yummy. And it wasn’t just his inner beast that thought so.

Who is this delicious handful? He didn’t recall meeting her, and he certainly wouldn’t have forgotten her.

The unknown woman straightened and faced him, and by face him, he meant almost eye to eye, which was unheard of given he boasted a height of almost seven feet. Yet this woman with the wicked curves must have stood at least six foot one or a touch more.

She wasn’t dainty, not by any stretch, not with the way her impressive breasts strained at her T-shirt, distorting the cartoon on it that said, Delicate Freakn’ Flower. Her indented waist was accented by the flare of her hips, the quirk of her lips matched by the mirth in her eyes.

While not a man to allow himself to indulge in strong emotion, Leo was suddenly possessed of a powerful urge to drag this woman into his arms and…do decadent things that would get even his steady heart racing.

“Well, hello there, big fellow. I don’t think we’ve met.”

Indeed they hadn’t, or he would have remembered her—and remembered to avoid her because anyone could see by the saucy tilt to her hips and the appraising look in her eye that she spelled trouble.

Leo didn’t do trouble. He preferred calm moments. Serene outings. Quiet evenings. Very quiet. A quiet she disrupted with her Frisbee antics, so he took her to task. “You’re not supposed to play Frisbee inside. It’s one of the association rules.” He’d know since he helped draft them.

Leo liked rules, and he expected people to follow them. When any group of predators lived in close proximity, keeping hot tempers under control was important, hence his job to enforce the edicts and keep the peace.

“Aw, come on. Are you telling me there’s no playing inside either?” Her plump lower lip jutted. “Do you know I got in trouble by a nice policeman for playing on the street? Which was totally unfair. As if it was my fault that guy wasn’t pay attention and rear ended someone at the red light.”

“You were playing in the road?”

“Road, sidewalk, does it really matter? What’s more important is, if I can’t play inside, and I can’t play outside, where is a girl supposed to play?”

Upstairs, eleventh floor, condo unit 1101. His bedroom had plenty of room. Of course the sport he pictured didn’t involve any props. Nor did it include any clothes. But telling her she could play with him naked probably wasn’t the answer she looked for. “We don’t play in the city. Not enough room. That’s what the ranch is for.”

“Ah, the farm. That place is still around? Awesome.”

“You know of it?” He frowned. While not a closely guarded secret, only those with permission were allowed on the property. Since Leo tended to curate that list, he tended to know anyone who visited. But he couldn’t place her. “Who are you? I don’t think I’ve seen you around before.”

“Yeah, it’s been a while since I visited. That’s what happens when a girl gets banned for a few years because of a few silly misunderstandings. Explode one carved pumpkin and people lose their minds. I see the lobby got repainted, no permanent harm done.”

Banned? Wait a second. He did know who this lady was. He’d heard Arik mention something about a cousin on his father’s side visiting for a bit. His words were actually, “Damned uncle asked me to let the brat come and hide out for a bit while some kind of calamity blows over in her hometown.”

To which Leo replied, “You know you can use the word ‘no’. I find it quite effective if I don’t want to get embroiled in unsavory situations.” The word no helped prevent a lot of unnecessary chaos.

Arik had laughed. “Say no to my uncle? Not happening. You haven’t met him yet. He’s the one guy I know who would make you look normal sized and when he’s not threatening to twist you into a pretzel, he’s the nicest guy you ever met. He’s also besieged by a set of troublemaking daughters.”

Both of whom had been banned by the previous pride alpha for causing too much damage and being a general nuisance.

While she had only recently arrived, Leo could already understand why the old king banished her. “You’re that troublemaker from out West, aren’t you?”

“Me, a troublemaker?” She fluttered her lashes. The problem was, with a mouth like hers, twisted into a smirk, she failed at the whole innocent look. “No, that’s my sister, Teena. I’m Meena, her twin, more commonly known as catastrophe. But you can call me your mate.”

With that, she flung herself on him and planted a big, juicy smooch on his lips.

And he liked it.

About The Author:

Hello, my name is Eve and I am a Canadian author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens.

I should warn you that I possess a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. I enjoy strong alpha males, and shifters. Lots of big, overprotective shifters. I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Do you like something a little darker? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

I love to write, and while I don't always know what my mind is going to come up with next, I can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because I love a happily ever after.

BOOK SUMMARY

When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.

As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.

MY REVIEW

Rating:

Solipsistic (adj.) overly concerned with one's own desires, needs, or interests

Joe,

Since this book about you was very unique – basically it was unlike anything I’d read before; and also very special to me, I’ve decided to make my review a bit different as well, in honor to you.

You were a real psycho, yet somehow you made me like you. Reading the Book of Joe (i.e. the novel You) was a unique experience, precisely because of you. I admire your creator, author Caroline Kepnes because I’m sure being in your head was no easy task.

This book about you is written is second person, which I believe was the perfect choice, because first of all, it completely removes us – the readers; we are irrelevant, it’s all about you and your ‘darling’ Beck. Secondly, it gives us a sense intimacy and it further highlights your obsession with Beck. Just brilliant! Ms. Kepnes, well done! I know Joe you probably want to take all the credit here, but I have to acknowledge good writing when I see it. I’m sure you, as a fellow book lover would understand.

Furthermore, I guess there were some parts that some readers might call tedious, because you described every minute detail regarding Beck’s life, and yes, that was strange because normal people don’t obsess about someone that much, nor do they stalk them, read their e-mails, harm their friends, etc. so it was at times overwhelming to read about how Beck basically invaded all of your thoughts. However, it was also necessary to portray all of that – to illustrate to which extent you were fixated on Beck.

Moreover, now onto your favorite topic (after Beck, mind you!) – books. My favorite books are generally those whose genre is difficult to define. The same case is here. I really don’t know where I’d place you; you combine psychological thriller, social comedy, contemporary, with a little eroticism thrown in. And I guess that is why I liked you so much.

Unusual, boundary-pushing, you were an overall likable psycho. I can’t wait to read about you again.

Until next time,
Beatrix

“The problem with books is that they end. They seduce you. They spread their legs to you and pull you inside. And you go deep and leave your possessions and your ties to the world at the door and you like it inside and you don't want for your possessions or your ties and then, the book evaporates.”
