ARC Review: A FORTUNATE BLIZZARD by L.C. Chase

Summary:

There are worse things than being stranded in a blizzard.

Artist Trevor Morrison has always appreciated the little things in life, treating each day as a gift. And with good reason: he’s been on the transplant-recipient list for too long now. When he learns just how numbered his days truly are, he resolves not to take them for granted. But he won’t be unrealistic, either—which means romantic commitments are off the table.

Marcus Roberts seems to have it all. He’s handsome, financially sound, and on the fast track to partnership at a prestigious law firm. In reality, though, his drive for success has meant no time for friends or relationships. Add in the fact that his family discarded him long ago, and he’s facing yet another holiday season alone.

When the biggest snowstorm to hit Colorado in decades leaves Marc and Trevor stranded at the same hotel, a chance encounter and a night of passion leads to more than either of them expected. Finding comfort in each other is a welcome surprise, but time is not on their side. Either they find a way to beat the odds, or they lose each other forever.

Review:

Rating: 4 stars for a lovely story!

Everyone else was out looking for his or her prince, and here he was searching for the prince’s kidney.

I'm usually not one to go for holiday-themed movies or books, so I suppose this is an unusual time because after A Fortunate Blizzard I want to read a bunch more. Sometimes a reader just needs to read about fortunate things happening to people who need them. Keeping in mind the "fortunate" part did me good while reading this book. You see, our main characters were going through a bad time in their lives, and if I hadn't hoped for something good to come out of the approaching blizzard, I would've been seriously sad.

First, we met Trevor, an artist, a member of a big, loving, supportive family, who was trying to make the most of every day because he didn't know how many he had left. The day the story started was the day he learned that unless a match was finally found for a kidney transplant his days were numbered. Instead of sharing his life with a charming man, and thinking of settling down and getting married, he was now facing a decision on how he wanted to die.

Marc didn't have health issues; he didn't need Prince Charming's kidney to save him, but he did need rescuing. As opposed to Trevor, Marc never got much love and support from his family. He ignored what he truly wished to do, and worked hard to get ahead in his firm in the hopes of finally getting recognition from his mother, even if he knew chances for that were slim to nothing. No boyfriend, no friends, no fun; just work, work, work.

Then a snowstorm changed everything.

Trevor and Marc were stranded in the same hotel. Their eyes met across a crowded room, they met, they talked, and flirted, then spent the night together. A hot, passionate, sweet, romantic night. Both Marc & Trevor felt there could be something more between them. Now, this could fall in the insta-love category, so it may not be the right story for those allergic to it. I, myself, am not the biggest insta-love fan, but in the case of Trevor & Marc, with Trevor being so sick, I was rooting for them to fall in love the minute they saw each other. They had no time to waste. Unfortunately, because of his condition, despite the undeniable attraction he felt towards Marc, Trevor was unwilling to get involved with him. But he was at least willing to spend some more time with him, and then part ways.

It was little time, but it was Marc's best Christmas ever, and it was enough time for Trevor to make a major impact on Marc. Enough time for me to wish a hundred times they weren't in that impossible situation. Also, a good time to remember the blizzard was a fortunate one to avoid depression.

In all this, it was only Marc's reaction to Trevor's illness that I found a bit odd, but I've decided to chalk it up to years of loneliness, and determination to keep the man he liked no matter what it took. The last part was unbelievably good, as in it was hard to believe something like that could happen, but I didn't expect anything different, nor would I change it. Not after everything these two men went through. And, hey, miracles do happen...

All in all, a perfect story to make you feel all warm inside when it's cold outside.

  1. I'm glad miracles can happen in fiction, because one of my coworkers didn't have that luck with her kidney... Great review, Silvia :)

    1. It's Danija, actually, but thank you. ;)

I'm very sorry about your coworker. This type of miracle... well, I, unfortunately, highly doubt it could ever actually happen, but it was nice to read about it.
