Summary:
"Mom always told me there are two kinds of love in this world: the steady breeze, and the hurricane. Emerson Ray was my hurricane...."

Juliet McKenzie was an innocent eighteen-year old when she spent the summer in Cedar Cove—and fell head over heels in love with Emerson. Complicated, intense Emerson, the local bad boy. His blue eyes hid dark secrets, and just one touch could set Juliet ablaze. Their love was demanding and all-consuming, but when summer ended, tragedy tore them apart. Juliet swore she’d never go back, and she’s kept that promise… Until now.

Four years later, Juliet’s done her best to rebuild the wreckage of her shattered life. She’s got a great boyfriend, and a steady job planned after she graduates. Returning to Cedar Cove to pack up her family’s beach house to prepare it for sale, Juliet is determined that nothing will stand in the way of her future. But one look from Emerson, and all her old desire comes flooding back. He let her go once, but this time, he’s not giving up without a fight. And Emerson fights dirty.

A heartbreaking history. An unstoppable passion. Torn between her past and future, Juliet struggles to separate love from desire. But will they find a way to overcome their tragic secrets—together? And after so much damage has been done, can a love remain unbroken?

Review:

Yep, you're seeing it right, people. I give this book 1 star. I really have to say that this doesn't happen often. At all. And that says a lot about this book.
I hope you read the blurb because I don't want to waste time telling you who the characters are or how everything starts. I'll just say what my honest opinion about this book is and I hope no one gets offended.

So Juliet comes back to her beach house in Cedar Cove where she experienced the romance of her life but also the tragedy of her mother dying and then the 'romance of her life' dumping her on the day of the funeral. And she suffers and leaves to make her life better again escaping all the hard stuff. Yeah, I instantly didn't like her. She seemed such a weak character from the beginning, a naive little girl who fell in love with the first man that paid attention to her and then just ran away from it all after everything. She didn't even ask for an explanation who the guy, Emerson left.

But anyway, she's soon graduating and has a great boyfriend, David.

"... maybe love doesn’t have to destroy you. Maybe it’s not all unbearable passion, and kisses that make you want to die. Maybe love can be that gentle breeze my mom told me about: strong, and sure, and true."
And everything would be fine, except... The minute she comes back to Cedar Cove to pack up her beach house for sale she begins obsessing over Emerson again: the past, where he is, what does he do, bla bla. And that's just unreasonable.

God, what a self destructive girl! The guy LEFT HER, on her mother's FUNERAL! Just like that, after weeks of perfect lovey-dovey! I'd brand the guy the bastard of the century! But noooooo! She runs after him, after the stupid sparks she gets around him, after the possessive, unstable, stupid guy. She chooses that even with the great boyfriend she has. I mean, yes, David didn't completely understand her and she didn't experience true passion with him but nobody is perfect and you can't have everything. David was so understanding, supporting, caring and a beautiful gentleman to her and she rejects all that.
How stupid can the woman get?

Yeah, there's more.
She actually cheats David with Emerson. She's so consumed and blinded by Emerson and his touch that she made out with him the first night, remembering David only when the panties were about to fly off.

"What can I say, to explain the power he has over me, overwhelming, mindless—how one touch could send me hurtling over the edge, in total freefall, not even thinking for a second about the boyfriend I have waiting for me. The man who loves me, and trusts me…"

"... being around Emerson, however painful, is better than not being with him at all. Never being around him again."
And Emerson. I have never seen a more demented guy. He has the usual possessiveness and fake vulnerability going on.

“You’re mine,” he says again fiercely.

“Not his, not anyone else’s. You can try and pretend you don’t feel it, but you do. You’ll always be mine.”

He even had the gals to be angry that Juliet left him after he dumped her. I mean, what? Do I have to even comment this? And more unbelievable fact is that Juliet justifies him for being angry about that. Not even 30% in and I'm exhausted. I kept hoping this is going to get better, but is got even worse.
Somehow, both of them kept insulting each other. I don't know what to think about this. Is it unintentional? Or what? I can't find a reason why the author would do this? Juliet insulted Emerson's cooking. And look at this...
“I can’t believe you named a boat after me…”

Emerson coughs. “Well, I figured it suited her.” He gives me a devilish grin.

“She was a stubborn bitch, but once I got my hands on her, she fell into line.”

 ******spoilers ahead*******
And you know what she did? Get on that boat, had a dinner with him, had sex the whole night and in the end, the guy left her hanging in the morning.
*clap clap* Congratulations! You just won the medal of the most stupid character ever!

Other faults I found in her is that she never eats! For God's sake, is that so hard to put in a book? Noooo, it's easier to say that 15 hours have passed since she last ate. *facepalm*
It's also annoying how Juliet's always feeling sorry for herself when she's the one leaving everyone, running away, never facing her problems - like Emerson when her left her, like her father that's always making her feel horrible and uncomfortable, like her materialistic, unfeeling sister. She's just so weak! And simply the biggest egoistic bitch I have ever read about. THERE, I said it!

But the thing I hated most about this book is that 95% of the book is Juliet thinking about stuff over and over again. Emerson and she had the first real conversation around 75%. Not kidding.
In the end, the real reason Emerson left her and kept leaving her is so ridiculous that I wanted to break something: Juliet's mother told him to leave her daughter because she should do to college and make a better life for herself. And he did it. He just gave up,not fighting for the one he loves.
I can honestly say that I have never read about a guy with less self-esteem and self-confidence. Ever.

Oh God, I'm done. Just remembering all this crap made me sick. Here's a couple more quotes that show you more how deserving the book is of this 1 star rating.

"He thinks I’m still better off without him, as if a life without his love is worth anything at all. I let him push me away once. I can’t make the same mistake again."

"Because I realize now, that’s the way it works. That if you’re lucky, you might get to fall in love so hard and so deep, that it changes you. That love seeps its way into every atom and molecule in your whole being, so that even if it’s over, or the two of you are forced apart, you’ll always carry the imprint of their soul with you, steady as a heartbeat. Forever."
Love??? This is love?? Oh God, spare me! So ridiculous I'm laughing my ass off!

The final score for Juliet and Emerson...

I just hope I never stumble across something like this ever again.

Until next time lovers,
