Summary on GOODREADS:

THE STORY YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW...

When Kyle Calloway died, he took a part of Nell with him. She wasn’t the only one left to pick up the pieces, however; Kyle’s death left a gaping hole in the hearts and lives of his parents and his older brother Colton, and ultimately broke the will of the girl he loved.

THE STORY YOU NEVER IMAGINED...

Becca de Rosa is Nell’s best friend. When Kyle died, Nell was so devastated that no one could reach her, not even her best friend Becca. As she tries to help Nell through her grief, Becca’s own life is thrust into turmoil, and everything she knows is changed.

Jason Dorsey asked Nell out the week after her sixteenth birthday, but that date never happened. Instead, he ended up going out with Nell’s best friend, Becca. He had no way of knowing, then, how that one date would send him on a life-long journey with Becca. He had no way of knowing the tragedies and triumphs he would experience, or that in Becca, he might find the love of a lifetime.

THE HEARTACHE YOU’LL NEVER FORGET...

***MY REVIEW***

If you've been hurt the
worst by those meant to love the most,
if you've sought release
 from agony through the
bliss of pain,
if you've been rejected
because of a perceived imperfection,
then this book is for you.
You are loved;
you are not alone:
you are beautiful.

Jasinda Wilder without a doubt writes compelling, deep and heartbreaking stories. Kind of stories that move you and make you think about life,  about world and people around you, all the good and bad stuff. The heroes of her books are realistic people who deal with lot of problems of nowadays (domestic violence, abortion, death, drug usage, mental disorders etc.) Because of that her books are not always easy to read, but that is also, IMO, what makes them so good. This book, just like the first one, was no exception.

From the very beginning until the second half of the story, this book was somewhere between 4-5 stars book for me. I even started to think that it's going to be better than the 1st one. I fell in love with Becca's and Jason's characters and their story right away and for me to actually like the main female character of the book is really a true rarity meaning the book must be really good in that case, so why then 3 stars you ask?
Well, after the first half of the book, the story kind of lost its spark. My problem was that everything seemed just too perfect- the way the plot started to develop, the characters and their issues etc. and just like that- from unputdownable the book became just the opposite. The main characters had some major problems which they solved in the best possible way in a short amount of time and everything seemed to work out for them which seemed too unrealistic for me. Around 70% in the book the masochist in me was getting a bit bored and started to wondering: what happened to that "heartache you'll never forget" the blurb promised? But then something major happens and we finally get our answer and fair dose of pain, even though for me, that heartache you'll never forget is more suitable for the 1st book than this one, because once again, after some minor issues, the characters overcome even that problem without any bigger drama which seemed again rather unrealistic to me. Another thing that wasn't so appealing is that the story was a bit too romantic and cheesy from time to time, especially towards the end. That's why in my opinion the first book was slightly better than this one.

My favorite thing about these book series is that the story is connected with music and poetry. This time it was through Becca's character who likes to write poetry. I liked her free verse poems very much, even though they weren't as good and touching as Colton's. Another great thing is that Colton and Nell make their appearance in this book too and along Becca & Jason finally get some closure. The sex scenes were once again hot, even though, for me, the story would have been better if there was actually less of them. I liked that for a change this time the girl was "the aggressor" in the relationship and not the boy. I always say that the supposed shy and mysterious ones are the kinkiest :D which this story confirms.
All in all, the story was good, it wasn't as great as the 1st one, but I liked it and I have no doubts that every other fan of these series will enjoy Becca's & Jason's story too.

The only way past the pain is through it.
You can't escape it.
You can't ignore it.
Pain, grief, anger, misery...they don't go away-
they just increase and compound and get worse.
You have to live through them, acknowledge them.
You have to give your pain
its due.

xoxo
